Frequently asked questions.
-
A: Every lesson in Abiding Wild is rooted in Biblical faith and values. Our team weaves Scripture and devotionals throughout the science content . For example, each weekly unit includes a short devotional that ties the nature topic back to God as Creator, plus intentional Scripture memory verses to help kids hide God’s Word in their hearts . You can be confident that while your children study insects, weather, or stars, they’re also growing in faith – the curriculum constantly points back to Christ in a natural, age-appropriate way.
-
A: Abiding Wild is a Christ-centered, nature-based homeschool curriculum created for children roughly Pre-K through 6th grade . It’s built for both individual families and homeschool co-ops, offering open-and-go lessons that require minimal prep. If you’re a homeschooling mom seeking a faith-filled, hands-on program, Abiding Wild provides an all-in-one solution to explore God’s creation with your kids in a fun and engaging way. (In short, it’s ideal for Christian families who want to learn together – from the kitchen table to outdoor adventures.)
-
A: Interactive, hands-on learning is at the core of Abiding Wild. Each unit is packed with activities that spark curiosity and get kids involved: exciting science experiments, nature journaling prompts, arts and crafts projects, and even outdoor explorations are common in our units . For example, during a lesson on butterflies your kids might build a butterfly feeder, do a simple science experiment on insect life cycles, create artwork inspired by butterfly wings, and record observations in a nature journal. This multi-sensory approach means children aren’t just reading about God’s creation – they’re experiencing it firsthand, which makes learning both fun and memorable (and keeps those active hands busy!).
-
A: Very little prep is needed – Abiding Wild is truly “open-and-go!” Each lesson comes fully scripted (we even provide fun jokes and dialogue tips for you! ), so you don’t have to plan lectures or gather lots of resources. These are usually common household or craft items (think crayons/markers, glue, scissors, watercolor paint, nature finds) and library books for read-alouds. No expensive or obscure science equipment is required – we designed the curriculum so that a busy homeschool mom can grab the lesson and go. A little upfront prep (like reserving library books or collecting a few nature items) is all it takes to be ready for an enriching week or two of learning.
-
A: Yes! Abiding Wild is built to be flexible for families and co-ops. The program spans roughly ages 4-12 (Pre-K through 6th grade) and provides layered activities so mixed-age siblings can learn together . Older kids can dive deeper into readings and journaling, while younger ones enjoy hands-on crafts or picture books – but all study the same weekly theme, which is a big help for family-style learning. Homeschool co-ops love Abiding Wild too: every lesson is scripted and easy to lead with confidence , making it simple for co-op leaders or parent volunteers to teach a multi-age group. Whether you’re one-on-one with your child or teaching a gathering of 15 kids, the curriculum is designed so everyone can participate and benefit at their own level.

A: Abiding Wild focuses on science and nature study through a faith lens, covering an exciting array of topics in God’s creation . Over the course of the program, you’ll explore mammals, birds, insects (like butterflies and dragonflies), reptiles and amphibians, plants and trees, earth science (rocks, weather, space), and even dinosaurs – all presented in a way that honors our Creator. Each unit is a deep dive into one topic (for example, “Owls” or “Foxes”), integrating science with art, literature, and Bible. While science/nature is the main focus, the family lessons naturally incorporate elements of literature (through read-aloud book suggestions, and poetry), engaging educational videos, art and handwriting (through journaling and copywork), and even some history or geography when relevant. In short, it’s a rich unit-study style curriculum – your kids get a well-rounded educational experience centered on each theme. (Note: You’ll still handle core math and formal reading instruction separately, as Abiding Wild is meant to beautifully complement those subjects with hands-on science and Bible-focused learning.)
-
A: Abiding Wild is designed to be a comprehensive science and nature curriculum for your homeschool, but you will likely use it alongside other resources for a full year’s plan. Think of Abiding Wild as covering your science, nature study, and even some art/Bible components – it can even stand alone in those areas. Families will typically add a math program and a language arts/reading program to complete their child’s core subjects (as is common in homeschooling). The good news is, Abiding Wild’s units are flexible and not overly time-consuming, so it fits well into your broader schedule. Many moms use it as the “spine” of their homeschool week to bring joy and wonder (through science, art, and faith integration), while still doing math and reading lessons separately.
In summary: you don’t need any other science curriculum – Abiding Wild has you covered on that front – but plan to teach the basic skills (math, phonics, etc.) with your preferred resources in tandem.
-
A: Abiding Wild family lessons are organized into four days of lessons per for each unit, with flexibility to adapt to your schedule. A typical day’s activities can often be done in about 20-30 minutes, though you can stretch or condense it based on your family’s pace. We understand that not all families will use all suggested activities every day - it gives you tons of flexibility to be as light or robust as you want. Because it’s modular, busy families can spread the work over the week or even combine days if needed. Many homeschool moms appreciate that it’s structured yet flexible – you have a clear plan for Monday-Thursday (for instance), but it’s not an all-day commitment. This leaves room for co-ops, field trips, or just downtime on other days. Abiding Wild was truly designed with real homeschooling schedules in mind, so it’s very doable even for large families or busy moms juggling multiple responsibilities.
-
A: Absolutely. We created Abiding Wild to be welcoming for new homeschooling parents as well as veterans. If you’re just starting out, you’ll find the lessons extremely user-friendly – every week’s plan is fully scripted and step-by-step , so you don’t have to figure out what to say or how to teach a concept. The curriculum provides tips and even jokes, guiding you through each activity with confidence. Even if you don’t have a teaching background or you’re not a “science person,” we’ve got you covered. Homeschooling can feel overwhelming at first, but with a grab-and-go curriculum like Abiding Wild you will find teaching science easy and fun!

A: We’re so glad you love Abiding Wild enough to want to share it—but we kindly ask that you don’t share.
Sharing lessons, or member-only resources outside your immediate family goes against our licensing agreement. We pour an immense amount of time, energy, and prayer into creating this curriculum, and your support allows us to continue that work.
If you're part of a homeschool group or co-op and would like to use Abiding Wild in that setting, we offer an affordable Co-op License specifically for that purpose. It allows for shared group learning while still honoring the work behind the curriculum and the needs of the broader community.
Thank you for helping us steward this mission well!

A: Abiding Wild is written from a non-denominational, orthodox Christian worldview. We are unapologetically Jesus-loving and Scripture-rooted, and our curriculum reflects that heart. While we don’t align with any specific denomination, we uphold the core truths of the Christian faith as found in God’s Word.
We encourage families to measure everything against the Bible, which we believe is the ultimate source of truth and authority. Our desire is to point children and families to God through creation, wonder, and His Word—trusting the Holy Spirit to guide each family’s walk of faith.

A: We love the heart behind Wild + Free—encouraging wonder, creativity, and nature in homeschooling. But Abiding Wild was created for families longing for something more deeply rooted in Christ.
Here’s how we’re different:
Faith: While Wild + Free is broadly faith-inspired, Abiding Wild is distinctly gospel-centered, with every resource pointing back to Scripture.
Curriculum: We offer nature unit studies that blend outdoor learning with Bible memory, journaling, and Christ-centered reflection.
Community: Our co-op leader community is smaller, more intimate, and grounded in like-minded Christian values.
Mission: We believe homeschool can be joyful, restful, and full of awe—when it’s anchored in Jesus.
If you’re looking for a Wild + Free–style experience that’s deeply faith-driven, you’ll feel right at home here. And if you love your Wild + Free community, but are looking for a Christian nature-based curriculum to use with your Wild +Free group or your own family, we are here for you - our curriculum would be a beautiful addition to your group meet-up days.

A: Abiding Wild is Charlotte Mason inspired, but not strictly Charlotte Mason.
We deeply value Miss Mason’s philosophy—especially her emphasis on living books, time in nature, narration, habit training, and viewing the child as a whole person made in God’s image. You’ll see her influence woven throughout our curriculum, particularly in our nature study approach, gentle rhythms, and encouragement to build wonder, attention, and relationship.
However, we are not a full Charlotte Mason curriculum. We also draw inspiration from other thoughtful approaches, including Wild + Free, seasonal rhythms, and hands-on learning. This gives families the freedom to adapt the material to their own pace and style, while still holding true to principles we believe honor a child’s natural curiosity and faith journey.
If you love Charlotte Mason’s heart for education and desire a nature-rich, Christ-centered homeschool experience, Abiding Wild may be a wonderful fit.
